The BAU learns that the emergency situation at FBI headquarters was a means to free Benjamin Merva from captivity. What has happened to former FBI agent Owen Quinn, he part of the Violent Crimes Apprehension Program (ViCAP), over the past year has all been leading to this moment. What the BAU members also learn is that Quinn's ViCAP colleague Mary Meadows was the inside person orchestrating Merva's escape, and that Reid, among the BAU team members, was chosen as their next target, he who has been abducted as part of Merva's escape. They also discover that Garcia, in being in the wrong place at the wrong time, has also been abducted by Meadows, Merva and their team. In his precarious situation, Reid is able to get some cryptic messages to his colleagues, who have to decipher the meaning of those messages if they are to save him and Garcia.
